What is AI
While there is no universally accepted definition, Artificial Intelligence (AI) is commonly referred to as a set of systems, created by humans, that operate with different degrees of autonomy. These systems aim to meet human-defined objectives by making predictions, recommendations, or decisions that affect both offline and virtual environments. The broad spectrum of AI includes machine learning, specialized AI algorithms, fully autonomous entities, connected objects, and even the futuristic concept of an AI “singularity.”
AI systems operate by observing their environment through data collection, interpreting the accumulated data, reasoning based on this knowledge or the information derived from the data, and determining the most effective actions to achieve a specific goal. Forms of AI that possess self-learning capabilities can adapt their actions by analyzing the effects of their previous actions on the environment.
In essence, AI is an overarching term used to describe processes that delegate decision-making and execution tasks, in part or in full, from humans to software systems. As we continue to integrate AI more deeply into our societies, we must also remain vigilant of its ethical implications and strive to ensure its responsible use.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) has undergone a swift and substantial evolution over the past two decades, largely driven by advancements in accessible and affordable technology. Often referenced broadly in policy discussions, AI encompasses various technology types, each playing unique roles in our daily lives. A notable catalyst for AI’s widespread adoption has been the proliferation of data, predominantly collected by private entities leveraging data-centric business models.
AI’s integration into our day-to-day existence has seen exponential growth, fueled by the ever-increasing creation, sharing, and re-sharing of user-generated content on the internet. Internet intermediaries, most notably social media platforms and search engines, increasingly utilize AI systems to manage information flows and control online content.
AI plays a dual role in this space. On one hand, it curates content, supporting the distribution of information to audiences through processes such as content ranking or editorial data analysis. On the other hand, it moderates content, filtering out and removing illegal or otherwise inappropriate material.
